Perth: Fremantle

I took a spur of the moment quick trip to Perth to meet up with Crystal and Stu in their new home in Fremantle.

Unfortunately the weather was pretty hideous, but we were able to entertain ourselves in Fremantle Prison, which was my first trip to anAustralian Prison. I think the weather actually made the visit more atmospheric. The prison was in use until 1991, when it was condemned.

The cells were tiny.

The prisoners were allowed to paint their cells in the last 6 months before the prison was closed.

This was the piano in the chapel - where they now hold an average of one wedding ceremony a month....

The last hanging took place in 1968.

After the somewhat harrowing tour, with our particularly creepy guide/warden we headed to the pub for some light refreshment and to defrost.

Thanks for a great visit guys!
